A Local Embodiment of Evolving Christianity

Evolution is a process by which living organisms develop. This process extends to the development of human consciousness and human systems. It is all—necessarily—ever-changing.

According to evolution, that which does not evolve in order to accommodate its adapting environment—over time—becomes extinct. And this is, thankfully, true for Christianity. Over time, old religious ideas about the Bible, race, gender or sexuality have either evolved, or because they’ve become so heinous to human consciousness are slowly ceasing to exist.

Unfortunately, rather than embrace change, the church has often failed to recognize its own evolution and remains skeptical about its need for evolution today. And yet—to use Jesus’ late night conversation with Nicodemus—one of the beautiful aspects of a spiritual life is to be born again and again and again. For you never know which way the wind is going to blow.

Today, the winds are blowing and many Christians know deep inside of themselves that Christianity needs to continue evolving, because our understanding of goodness and love demand it. At Pearl we’re intent on embracing and celebrating the evolution of love in Christian ideology and practice, and we’d love for you to join with us in Christian life that is:

  • Theologically nonviolent and non-dominion focused.

  • Unreservedly celebrating the full participation of women and the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Deeply committed to working against racism.

  • Safely nurturing kids and youth in the ways of Divine Love.

  • Wholeheartedly declaring God’s favor upon and presence within every person.

  • Necessarily deconstructing harmful Christianity.
