Particularity and Partnership

In the month of October we’re providing a week of evening educational opportunities. These offerings are a mix of practical, theological, and biblical topics, and are great way to dig deep into important issues with relevance for today.

Particularity and Partnership
Tuesday, October 27, 7:00-8:30pm

Please RSVP so we can be sure you get the link to join the Zoom discussion!

At Pearl, we speak often about our sacred story of peace. Yet at the same time we acknowledge that Christianity, and other faiths and worldviews as well, have often been a source of violence and tribalism. How do we tell our sacred story while living well and honoring those who do not share it? Some have tried to minimize differences and maximize similarities between faiths and beliefs, but this often distorts the “Other” to look just like us. Is there a way to hold to particularity while still finding meaningful partnership? Leaning on the work of theologian Nicholas Healey, Pastor Ben will offer a framework for seeing each particular worldview, in all its difference, as participating in moving us forward, each contributing to a conversation between humanity and the divine. Holding our particular Christian story does not have to be at odds with honoring, and learning, from others and their sacred stories. Facilitated by Ben Barczi, pastor of formation.
