Two Services: 5:00 & 6:30pm
Everyone is invited to join in the celebration on Christmas Eve! We’ll sing Christmas songs and read Christmas stories and listen to a Christmas homily about Divine Light shining in the darkness. We’ll even light Christmas candles as a reminder that light truly does cast out all that is dark. Consider inviting family and friends to this special service. Please note: both services will be identical. The only difference is that the 5pm service will be the only service with toddler, preschool, and elementary offerings.
Note: there will not be a Sunday morning service on Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24.
Families, join us after church service on December 10 for cookie decoration with kids of all ages! We’ll supply sugar cookies and fun frostings and decorations (and a big tarp to keep the floor clean). Questions? Contact Heather Griffin or Drew Andrews.
Happy Halloween, Pearl Church! Join us the Sunday before Halloween right after our church service ends for everything a church “harvest party” was supposed to be! Costumes are highly encouraged, with games and treats ready after the service for kids and families. Kids are welcome to wear their costumes to church this morning. See you there!
Join us for our annual Blessing of the Animals! In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, Christians throughout the world bless their dogs, cats, fish, pigs, chickens, horses, and so forth! For good public order we’ll keep it to domesticated pets. (Stuffed animals for your littlest ones, too!)
Join us at Wallace Park for a brief liturgy, blessing, and some treats (for your pet). Bring along a picnic blanket and snack and hang out for a bit afterward, too. Wallace Park has an enclosed dog park available as well. Questions? Contact Ben Conachan.
Third Floor Terrace, after service
Join us for an end of the school year bash on June 25th after church. Everyone is welcome! Feel free to bring your own lunch or grab pizza and meet us up on the third floor terrace. We’ll have frozen treats, bubbles, music and games to celebrate another school year in the books! Can’t wait to party with you all!
Join us on May 13th in SW Portland at Gabriel Park for a family play date. Gabriel Park has an amazing inclusive playground, skatepark, community gardens and nature path! So much to explore. Join us at the playground at 1pm and we’ll hang as long as we’re having fun!
directly following the first service at Ecotrust
Parents and caregivers of youth are invited to connect with other Pearl families at this quarterly meeting. We will connect and catch up while the youth will hang out in the church office. Snacks will be provided for the youth to munch on.
Join us on April 22nd at Luuwit View Park for an Earth Day family play date. Luuwit View is an amazing inclusive playground, with a stunning view of Mt St Helen (Luuwit is an Indigenous word for Mt St Helen). We’ll also have everything you need to plant some veggies to take home with you. We’ll be there at 1pm and hang as long as we’re having fun!
Come join us for a park play date at Peninsula Park on Saturday March 25th. Peninsula has so much to offer! Kids can swing, climb and slide on the playground before heading over to check out the public rose garden and fountain on the other side of the park. We’ll meet there at 1pm and hang as long as we’re having fun! Can’t wait to play with you then!
Questions? Please contact Heather Griffin.
As our youth group continues to grow, we want to create space on a quarterly basis for our parents and caregivers of youth to connect. With this in mind, you’re invited, directly following the service to spend an hour getting to know, connect with, and enjoy the camaraderie of others who are in a similar life-stage with youth. Our Youth Coordinator, Kylie Marble, will be present to facilitate the time, make introductions, etc.
Pearl Kids and families, join us for a few hours of fun at Playdate PDX! Playdate PDX is a three floor indoor play space with an interactive dance floor and a ball cannon! To say your kiddos will have fun is the understatement of the year. Playdate PDX is located in the Slabtown neighborhood at 1434 NW 17th Ave. We’ll meet there at 1pm and hang for as long as the kiddos are having fun. We can’t wait to see you there!
Questions? Contact Heather Griffin.
Everyone is welcome! Bring your sleds and tubes to join us for some sledding fun on Mt Hood! We’ll meet at the Snow Bunny Sliding area around 10am.

Throughout the later months of 2020 and all through the winter, Pearl babies, parents and caregivers have met once a month to say hello, share milestones of growth and development and to encourage one another. It has been so precious to see how each of the sweet Pearl babies have changed so much over the past year. They really do grow up so fast!
This spring we will continue our monthly meetings with additional times to get together. Mark your calendars for the following dates:
June 14th @4pm
I look forward to seeing each of you and also to seeing what new babies, parents and caregivers will join us to say Hello!
Questions? Contact Pastor Mindy Durias.
There are few things I enjoy more than a good bedtime story. I love reading and listening to them, and to do so with others is even better! For that reason, I’ll be hosting an all Pearl Families story night on Thursday, May 27th at 7pm.
The story that I’ll be sharing is one of my favorites. It’s called “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy.
This is truly a story for all ages, with characters that are relatable in both silly and serious ways. Your children will want to hear it again and again, even as they grow into adults.
What to bring?
A cozy blanket to curl up in
A snack to share with your family
Ears ready to hear a great story!
I hope to see all our parents, caregivers, kids and youth there.

Facilitated by Pastor Mindy Durias
To be mindful is to be attuned to the present. To be self aware is to have conscious knowledge of one’s own character and feelings. As a mother of five children ages 11-21, I see these two states of being as key to nourishing meaningful, loving connections with children.
You’re invited to join me on Monday, May 10 from 7-8:30pm for a group discussion for parents and caregivers. No matter what age your children are it is never too late to create new ways of relating and deepening the relationships you have with them. In this group discussion we will explore together questions like:
What do you love about your children?
What do you like about being a parent?
How do you think/feel about yourself as a parent?
What is one thing that, if you could, you would like to change in your relationship with your children?
Come with a beginner's mind, ready to listen to the wisdom other parents have to share, and share your own unique wisdom as well.
This discussion based class is best experienced in a small group. Therefore, space is limited to 6 people. Please RSVP by emailing Pastor Mindy to secure a spot and receive the zoom information. If this class fills, you will have the opportunity to join next month. Date TBD. Contact Pastor Mindy at mindyd@pearlchurch.org with any questions.
Read what a few Pearl parents have to say about this class…
The Mindful Self-Aware parenting class offered a refreshing framework for considering my intentions in parenting, while being sensitive to each parent’s unique differences in personality and circumstances. By offering thoughtful questions for reflection, engaging content and space for sharing in conversation, I gained practical tools for the present, as well as opportunities for further consideration. I walked away from the class with a renewed gentleness toward myself as a parent, which I hope will in turn extend to my children. This class is an invaluable resource for parents and caregivers of children in any developmental stage. ~Jen Roth
Especially with the isolation of the pandemic, I found it helpful to share some challenges in parenting as well as hear from other parents and know I’m not alone. I learned from other parents, and have put into practice taking more time to take a breath and pause before I respond. ~Lizzie Varner
