Pearl Church

Home Group Ministry

We believe that church is not just an individual experience to be consumed on Sundays. We believe we are called to be church—a community that seeks to follow Jesus together in the context of real relationships where we live out the values of the Kingdom of God. This is very difficult to do, just on Sunday mornings. We can’t have real relationships with 100 people, especially when most of the worship service isn’t about talking with one another. We need to make space for real relationships beyond Sunday mornings in order for us to be church.

Home groups gather weekly in homes around Portland for discussion, prayer and sharing of life. We’d love to see everyone who calls Pearl Church home invest in spiritual growth and authentic relationships through home groups. There are groups of many flavors (mixed, men’s, women’s, family-friendly) and several locations around town. Most group discussions are based on sermon questions, but there is space for different formats, such as family friendly groups, book studies, and Bible studies. To build community within the groups, we open the groups for new members in September, January and March. We ask everyone who signs up to commit to the following:

We ask you to commit for the full term (September through December for Fall, January through March for Winter and March to June for Spring), and make attending Sunday services and participating in the group a priority for that term.

We ask group members to participate in the life of the group, not only by contributing to the discussion and prayer, but also in hospitality and service (e.g. hosting, providing snacks, helping clean up, helping with transportation etc.) according to their ability.
