Pearl Church

Adult Education Ministry

The Adult Education Ministry exists to stimulate spiritual awareness and biblical education beyond what is available through weekly sermons and Home Group ministry.  We desire Pearl Church to grow deeply and developmentally as faithful followers of Jesus.  Seeking to love God with our minds, we are guarded from a simplistic or anti-intellectual faith.  Currently the Adult Education Ministry involves three endeavors:  Bible Marathons; Theology Reading Group; and Discipleship 101.

Bible Marathons are monthly weekend (usually Saturday) gatherings in which large sections of the Scripture are read aloud, interspersed with singing and praying.  As we read, we follow the sweep of themes and the interrelatedness of Scripture and take time to respond and reflect on what God might be saying to us through His Word.  For more info or to RSVP, please contact Michelle Peel at

Theology Reading Group is a monthly gathering to discuss a classic book nominated by the group to stimulate our intellectual and spiritual fervor.  Most recent selections included The Rainbow People of God (Desmond Tutu), The Knowledge of the Holy (A. W. Tozer), Cannery Row (John Steinbeck), The Meaning of Persons (Paul Tournier), and Frankenstein (Mary Shelley).  Guests are always welcome to the discussion, even if only a portion of the book has been read.  For more information, contact Nate Barksdale at

Discipleship 101 is a class covering some of the spiritual disciplines and basic information about being a follower of Jesus.  It will be held in the EcoTrust 3rd Floor Conference Room, 12:30-2:00 PM on Sundays May 6 through June 24, 2012.  Topics include Affirming your identity in Christ; Discovering your spiritual pathway; Walking together in the journey; Knowing what God is like; Studying the Bible for yourself; Earning, spending, saving, and giving; and Sharing your faith.  For more information, contact Reilly Gibby at
